In the last few challenging years, where we were all confined to our homes for long periods, I found huge comfort in beginning to be a gardener. I’d never done much before but it was so satisfying growing flowers from seed. I filled the garden with flowers and their colours and shapes found their way into my work. I also began to notice much more intensely the detail of the verges and the hedgerows on my daily walks, how they changed every day and this all inspired a new body of work. That first locked down spring and summer when the weather was so warm..the colours were wonderful and it really lifted my spirits being surrounded by their vibrancy and I was so lucky to be able to be in the studio bringing their vivid colours back with me and into my papercuts.
