Coastal Garland
Ahoy there maties ! I have been increasingly drawn to the sea lately, and living here in Northumberland I am thoroughly spoilt for beautiful beaches. From the miles of sandy shoreline at Alnmouth, to the pebbly rockpool strewn beaches of places like Boulmer there’s miles and miles of coastline to visit. There’s also pretty harbour villages like Seahouses, for boat trips to the Farne Islands to see the puffins and seals. All this coastal inspiration led me to make a garland featuring a range of lovely coastal themed papercuts. I had fun trying to take photographs of it at the beach - there’s a link here if you want to see a ‘behind the scenes’ !
I’ve included a lighthouse, an anchor, a seal and a sailing ship, with four different gulls swooping between them. Perfect for recreating that day at the seaside feeling in your home ! Hang this metre long garland either horizontally or vertically; it’s also easy to undo it and hang each one individually in windows - or use them as extra special gift tags on presents for seaside loving family and friends.
Each one starts with a hand cut which I then turn them into a template for machine cutting in my studio. I then hand finish each one with a scalpel, string them on crochet cotton, and package them with love from Northumberland!
The paper garland is about a metre long and the individual papercuts range in size from about 15 to 18 centimetres wide.
